I would say about 10 years ago, when being a geek was just getting cool, I talked to my husband and we decided to register computergeekz.com domain. We searched around and found godaddy, who at the time was not big. We registered computergeekz.com and computergeekz.net. A few times over the years I have tried different things with the website, none of which came to anything. I am not sure if it was because my knowledge was lacking or if it was because ever time it wasnt anything I really wanted to do. Recently I have been blogging for the compnay I work for, and although the topic matter is a little bland.. I mean really how much can one person continue to talk about data recovery.. I found that I really like it. I like chatting it up with the people who comment, and I like finding interesting topics to discuss.
So then the light bulb goes off, I still have that domain sitting out there doing nothing. I head back to old faithful, godaddy, and I set up an account for hosting. I chose godaddy honestly based on the fact they were easy for me to setup because I register my domain with them. They also have cheap hosting, and offer wordpress. I get my little blog set, and begin to write about my totally geek based topics. The best thing about this whole thing is that because I like the things I am writing about I can produce artiles at a fervent pase. The other totally nifty thing is that because I am having fun writing the articles I am learing about search engine stuff, and how wordpress really works on the back end.
So I guess the about me deal is as follows. I am a geek, in the truest sense of the word. My first boyfriend was met through on line BBSing. Thats right my first online experience was dialing a phone number and then slamming the phone into my 300 baud modem. I have never stopped using my computer, and have used it for all my entertainment, as well as my livelyhood since I was 12 (I am 33 now). Yes I know how to use DOS, and I remember when having an Amiga Toaster made you the graphic genius. I remember companies like Kalok (woot woot baby) and know that Atari was at the forefront of computers. I can tell you what midi REALLY is and can get you dos modem drivers to work. I can edit you congif.sys and autoexec.bat.
My “normal” friends all call me when the computer breaks, and yes I can actually fix it. I have take and passed Microsoft Certs, not because I thought it would make me a geek, but because a job needed me to have. I hope this covers my level of geekdom and I hope you can and come and follow me proudly!
